Oh you know I love lightning. Here’s some more from that September 15th storm over Eloy that may have dropped a brief tornado.

Wow, I had a spectacular show in front of me last night near Eloy! Tons of incredible bolts as the storm went right by me to the southwest. This was actually a severe thunderstorm that had rotation on it, strong inflow and my buddy Bryan Snider saw successive power flashes at one point. A train also had 35 cars derailed about 10 minutes before this image was captured. Glad I got out of the way in time to sit safely and take some shots.

The remnants of hurricane Odile will make their way into AZ over the next 72-hours, it’s going to be nuts! Will be chasing non-stop…you can watch me right here on my Live Chasing page.

I had a lot of luck with lightning last summer…here’s another one from a crazy early night in July when this storm rained down bolts for well over an hour in the general vicinity of Eloy and Casa Grande.

Here’s a shot from last summer. This was taken from an overpass towards a western setting sun and a sky alive with dust. A dust storm had already blown through earlier and you can see on the left horizon a bunch more getting ready to move towards the right in the frame.

The color of the sky made me pull over. The sun setting coupled with the brown/orange dust gave the scene an erie glow. Almost looked like a bomb had gone off in the distance.

Yeah, I love road shots to death…not much I can do about that. So snagging one with a large haboob crossing just a little ways to the south was a fun catch.

This is Toltec Road near Eloy…I loved the light here with the sun going down. Nice long shadow across the road. Also that low sun really brought out the texture in this old highway, not to mention highlighting the dust cloud itself.

Have a lot planned this coming summer and it’s going to be a busy one. Cannot wait.

July 3rd felt like the first real day of storm chasing. We were out late in the afternoon, watched a cell build up and drop a bunch of rain near Casa Grande, even helped some people who flipped their car they hydroplaned on Interstate 8.

Yeah, that accident was a bit surreal to say the least. We missed it by roughly 10 seconds, and by the time I pulled over to help, the couple was crawling out of their vehicle. But their Honda was upside down in the median. Crazy. The girl called her mother first, so I called  911. They were totally fine.

Later on, the sun went down and the sky got dark. I had planned to hit Tucson, but the storms right here in Eloy were perfect. Finally was able to shoot some lightning via long exposure for the first time this year. Always a good feeling.

Got a couple of okay images, nothing earth shattering, but here’s one from the night.

Hoping to get a few more days in before Sunday when we hit our week-long vacation to Missouri.
