I have this 10-stop filter and whenever I think of using it, I picture the Oregon coast…rocky shores, long exposures, foggy water…all that jazz. I simply forget that we actually have lakes over here in Arizona and a few of them are incredibly picturesque.

On New Year’s Eve morning, I grabbed the kids and we headed up Apache Trail to see what we would see. I’ve been to Canyon Lake before, but never have taken photos for some reason. But on this morning the clouds were gorgeous and the water was amazingly calm. Super calm. Obviously it’s not the ocean, but there was zero wind and no waves…and the reflection even from a normal exposure was beautiful.

I popped on the 10-stop and ran off a few exposures. This was only 133 seconds, one of the shorter ones, but I really dug the motion in the clouds better than a longer exposure would have shown.

Definitely need to explore more around Canyon Lake someday.
