Benicia and Thomas’ wedding at The Icehouse

Benicia and Thomas…two outstanding people. Who have dogs. And decided to get married at The Icehouse, one of my favorite places to photograph a wedding. Thanks you guys for making Jeff and myself feel right at home and like we were part of the family. Loved your celebration and how much you guys obviously care for each other. I remember Thomas’ worry about being photogenic…well…when someone smiles and laughs all day, that’s about as photogenic as you can get!

Also thank you to Riette from Downtown Phoenix Venues/The Icehouse, who sometimes feels like the big sister I never had…I love giving her grief all night. She rocks though, like no other.

Emma + Brian | Wedding

The moment I met these two I knew this would be a special, special wedding. I think it was when Brian told me he was a monk for three years and when it came time to decide if he wanted to commit further to it, he instead came home to the girl waiting for him…Emma.

I mean…when he left for Europe to become a monk…that was when Emma realized how much she loved him. And they waited three years for each other. How do you not get all misty-eyed over that?

We had so much fun on their engagement shoot, I just knew the wedding day would be amazing. They are both such beautiful people, so genuinely happy and in love…it makes our jobs as photographers easy. The day started off at the parent’s houses in Tempe, both sides having lived next to each other for a very long time. The ceremony took place at Mount Carmel church right down the road and after that they whisked 250+ people to downtown Phoenix and the gorgeous Icehouse.

Seems like I rarely get more than 20-30 minutes for portraits these days, so it was so much fun to hang with the wedding party and then Emma and Brian for quite a long time. We took pictures all over the Icehouse and the outside areas, including some nearby train tracks. I was in awe of Emma’s dress with real rhinestones and also the wheat grass bouquets…so unique and fun.

I loved, loved, loved being a part of Emma and Brian’s wedding. These are special people, surrounded by families who have incredible love and support for them both. It was truly a blessing to witness everything.

I’d like to thank my good friend Heath O’Fee for helping me shoot this wedding while he was in town and doing an outstanding job. If you need a photographer up in Canada (and Calgary specifically), drop him a note.  I kinda love that dude.  Also to Riette from The Icehouse for being great to work with and keeping us in the loop with what was going on!

Mainly though to Emma and Brian for trusting me to capture their day. You guys are an amazing couple and I cannot wait to see what happens with you both! Hope you had fun at whatever beach you went to (inside joke)!

Teaser | Emma + Brian | Wedding

Seriously am in love with this wedding. The dress, the bouquets made out of wheat, the Icehouse…but mostly the couple. Emma and Brian…so happy, so in love, it was on their faces all day.

Here’s a glimpse…more to share later!

One | Emma + Brian

Can’t get over how absolutely beautiful Emma and Brian’s wedding was yesterday. A classic couple, an astoundingly gorgeous dress, wheat bouquets…it was perfection.

TONS more to come!

Gretchen & Chris | Wedding

Chris and Gretchen feel like old friends. The first time I met them, we spent roughly a hour talking about their wedding and then two hours of them showing me the coolest places in downtown Phoenix, like The Roosevelt, Carly’s Bistro and the Film Bar. I remember walking into the Roosevelt with them and the waitress brought beers without them even seeing her.

I guess that’s what amazing about these two. Everyone feels like their friend. And that made this wedding extra special for me. Yes, of course the fact that it was at The Icehouse ramped up the coolness factor. Definitely one of the more awesome venues in town. And the details/decorations by Angelic Grove were simply amazing.

But what made it extra awesome was that you felt like a part of the wedding. They made every vendor feel special. The day didn’t feel rushed or busy. It was like hanging out with friends at a party. I don’t know that I’ve ever been that relaxed at a wedding before. Heck, I never drink at weddings, even when the bride and groom beg me, but I had a beer towards the end of this one. Felt like the thing you do when you’re chillin’ with friends.

Also adding to the day was Gretchen’s son Spencer. I helped him tie his slightly-too-big tie. He was such a good boy and a total rock star. Walking his mom down the aisle, being brave. And the biggest moment of all…saying “And they lived happily ever after” into the microphone right after Chris and Gretchen kissed. I think everyone was crying.

C & G, thanks so much for letting me shoot this for you guys. Everyone there was absolutely amazing to me personally and I’ve never felt so welcomed and loved at something like this before. I will cherish it for a very long time. I hope we meet up again real soon! And I hope your time in Bisbee was fantastic.

I definitely need to thank Jeff Ambrose for once again shooting with me. And to my lovely wife Jina, who ran the photobooth (you can see those photos here).

Please enjoy some music by Blaine Long, who performed live at the wedding, and The Nadas. The first track is a song Blaine wrote specifically for Chris and Gretchen (how awesome is that???) and the second is a track by the Nadas that they had played at the wedding. I always post a lot of pictures, so there’s two songs to get you through this one! Blaine’s music is soooo good, and he’s a local guy here in Phoenix, so please check out his work too!
