The Shell Family

Just over a month ago I did a photoshoot for the Shell family. I know Emma and Brian from their wedding years ago and then a couple of family shoots since then. Very special people to me, such a beautiful family.

The purpose of the shoot was to get the entire family together to capture some memories, especially with Heather, who had gotten real sick and was going through chemo. At the time of the shoot they had gotten some bad news that the cancer had spread more than they had thought it would.

I am just so devastated to hear that Heather passed away peacefully with her family yesterday. To meet someone so beautiful, so happy and funny, and to watch her enjoy being with her family, her niece and nephew…and then a month later to be gone. I have no words for this. Shoots like this remind me of how important photography can be to people who lose loved ones. I’m honored to have been able to be with the Shell family for a bit and capture some moments.

If anyone has anything extra, they are trying to raise money to help pay for her medical costs. Give it a thought if you have a moment.

The Tillinghast Family

This is about the third time I’ve shot the Tillinghast family and it’s always a blast. Nick is an incredibly talented photographer who has been killing it lately, and it’s been awesome watching that happen! Love this entire group, hope you enjoy these images!

The Tinder & Giesinger Families

Six years in a row with these two families. Some of my favorite people!

The Lewis family

I’ve been horrible at getting up blog posts from family shoots I’ve done recently and even late last year, so here’s the Lewis family, one of my favorites from the 2016 fall season!

Maddie & Alex’s engagement in Tempe

So much joy and laughter in these photos. Maddie and Alex were a blast to hang with, and we even ended up a bit of a stormy sunset!

The Wise Family

Another family session from last year that we didn’t blog but should have. This family. Amazing. So cute and so fun.

And the grandpa from Up is in this. I mean, what more could you ask for?

Kristen and Jason’s wedding at Tempe Center for the Arts

Kristen and Jason…runners, a band reviewer for the New Times and a medical illustrator. Fascinating stuff. I made Kristen send me pictures of stuff she draws and sure enough, those graphics you see in a doctor’s office with cut-aways of anatomy and things like that…Kristen does it. And does it like incredibly well. They are both amazing people…I mean, Jason ran a marathon on the day of his wedding:

Their wedding was uber relaxed and chill, which of course is right up my alley. I’d never shot at Tempe Center for the Arts before, so I was stoked for the opportunity. Thanks to the TCA staff (especially Susan) for being so accommodating! Thanks to my buddy Aaron Hoskins for helping me out on this one…such a good dude and he takes some wicked photos.

Kristen and Jason…thanks for being so awesome. Hanging with you at the engagement session and then your wedding…I can just see how much you guys love each other. Really appreciate you allowing us to be a part of your day and trusting us with it.

Hope you enjoy a smattering of my favorite images from your wedding!

The Tempe Center for the Arts

Back in early January when we had some amazing storms blow through Arizona, I was out going nuts with trying to capture it all. I posted a shot of the Salt River Dam all deflated (You can see it here), which you see from the walkway between the Tempe Center for the Arts and the river itself.

I drove to this spot just to capture the river, but after I had snapped all the photos I wanted, I turned around and realized what a fantastic piece of architecture the Tempe Center for the Arts actually was. Amazing angle and lines, lots of glass, a very cool negative edge pool…just brilliant to look at.

So of course, my focus left the weather for a bit and I took a bunch of bracketed shots to make some HDRs out of this fantastic work of art.

I’ve never posted them until now. I didn’t even process them until this weekend..they sort of went forgotten in a way, but someone was ordering prints from me of Tempe and was curious if I had anything else, so I remembered these.

This last one shows the awesomeness of a negative edge pool…it looks like this is the lake itself, extending all the way to the bridge, but if you look at the above photo, you can see where it ends.
