This was 2018

One of my annual traditions around these parts is to post a nice recap of the year in photos. They range from road trips with friends,  family pics, wedding, photoshoots and of course, storm images. It felt like a different year overall, a little more subdued, with spring chasing offering slightly less excitement this time around and a couple less weddings. But wow it was a blast of a year regardless!

The year kicked off at a little shoot with a former bride and groom from Australia and their new baby girl, and then I was off on a road trip with Jay, Jason and Andrew to Death Valley and the eastern Sierras. From there it was wedding season, then storm chasing on the plains, followed by epic haboob and lightning action across Arizona during the monsoon, and finally fall weddings and family portraits. Toss in some wonderful family moments, it was a year to remember.

It also marked my fourth year as a full-time photographer and it keeps getting better and better. I still feel incredibly blessed that I get to do this everyday.

Hope you enjoy this look back at some of my favorite images, including at least a photo from almost every wedding and family session!

Williams Family | Lifestyle

Taking pictures of the Williams seems like a weekly deal these days! Totally kidding, but seriously…I photographed Jay and Jessica’s ninth anniversary and then a week later we did these family photos. They are such a fun family, it’s always a special treat for me to be able to do this for them.

And they are taking our annual photos this coming Tuesday and we’re beyond excited!

We ventured over to the west side of town and wandered around this great park, where cats and peacocks walked together in perfect harmony. Cornfields, grape vines, orange groves, old buildings…couldn’t ask for a better spot.

The family looked great…I was dying over Ryder’s little bow tie and Cruz’ vest! Thanks again guys, see you in a few days!

I love Jessica’s face here…family sessions can sometimes be a little draining 🙂

Two frames | Lifestyle

My camera has been busy the last few days and I’ve barely had time to think. Here are two frames from a couple of lifestyle sessions.

Kennedy | First Birthday | Lifestyle

I had the pleasure of hanging out with this family last Sunday, which also happened to be Kennedy’s very first birthday. Her parents Alicia and Eric had planned a special day and it started off with a portrait session in downtown Phoenix and finished with an adorable birthday party in a park later that morning.

Kennedy was a doll the entire time and we had a blast. She just started taking steps, so it was fun to capture a few wobbly moments. I have to give mad props to Alicia for a beautifully done party…the details, the food, the deserts…the little area for other kids to make sunglasses…was all super impressive. She even made a cute little fabric skirt for Kennedy.

Thanks so much for letting me do this for you guys! Had awesome time being able to celebrate with you all. A very happy birthday to Kennedy!

Kennedy | Sneak Peek | Lifestyle

It was Kennedy’s first birthday yesterday…and we did a little photoshoot in the morning before cake and presents later on. Here’s two from downtown Phoenix…more to come!

(She just started walking a teeny bit…still wobbly!)

The Hirsch family | Lifestyle

It’s not often I get to hang out with a guy from the National Weather Service, so this shoot was especially fun for me. Matt works at the Phoenix office and I didn’t get to meet him when I had a brief tour during the summer. So it was awesome to chill out with him, Keren, Julian and Emma! No, we didn’t talk about the weather the ENTIRE time, but there was definitely some pretty nerdy moments going on.

Emma just recently started sitting up, so Keren wanted to get some family photos. Emma is also quite skilled at cute pigtails and eating toy giraffes.

Julia can feed ducks and throw bread into a lake like no other, plus he’s pretty awesome at teeball.

Thanks so much for letting me walk around with you guys and grab some pictures. You have a wonderful family!

From a family shoot on Friday.  Cute little girl.  An amazing sunset.

Rob and Anna | Wedding

Back in October I helped my good friend and photog extraordinaire Trevor Dayley shoot Rob and Anna’s wedding. I was so blessed to be a part of this event, not only because it was fantastic to hang out with Trevor for a few hours, but also the wedding itself was absolutely beautiful.

I always want to tell a story with my wedding posts, but since I was only helping Trevor for this one, I didn’t get to find out too much about Rob and Anna. I do know they constantly get asked how old they are since they both look very young. And Anna was the last of her 3-4 sisters to get married, which made Dad shed quite a few tears at the reception! I can’t imagine having that many daughters and seeing them all get married one by one. Just watching Father of the Bride these days results in me getting all weepy eyed.

This wedding was so gorgeous. Rob and Anna were awesome and looked amazing. Once we stepped into the backyard reception area, Trevor and I couldn’t stop taking pictures of all the details being set-up by Rust and Lace. It was almost a duel to see who was getting the better compositions (I won of course). I would HIGHLY recommend them for your own wedding. And then please invite me to shoot it for you. I could never grow tired of their vintage items and beautiful flower arrangements.

And hats off to DJ Matt Figueroa for doing a seriously cool job.

There was a lot of other fun stuff too…like the kids jumping on the trampoline…or one of the groomsmen jumping THROUGH the trampoline. Ah, you’ll see a bit later.

Thanks to Trevor for inviting me to help him (here is his blog post of the wedding), to Rob and Anna for being awesome and  to the entire family on both sides. Had such a fun time and I wish these two newlyweds the very best.

The Carusone family

I love, love, love referrals and so I want to thank my friends Joel and Kim for passing my name on to the Carusone family! We met up Sunday in Tempe to get some updated family photos.

Although…we were supposed to have met up a few weeks prior, but suddenly there was a massive triathalon going on that day, so we had to reschedule. Dena loves this area around the Tempe Center for the Arts and really wanted to have their photos taken with it as the backdrop.

Had a blast with these guys. The three brothers, Erik, Logan and and Evan, of course didn’t want to get pictures taken. I mean, they are high school boys. Soooo many other fun things to be doing. But they were great sports, eventually started having fun… and one of them even found a fake mustache laying around that somehow ended up in a few of our photos. I did feel at times that I was shooting a boy band or something…such sharp looking dudes! As were mom and dad of course.

This also marked the first ever photoshoot where I got to talk about fantasy football while we were walking around! Thanks to dad James for sharing in a bit of my misery going into the playoffs.

And thanks to the whole family for letting me hang out with you guys and snap some frames. Hope you had fun and enjoy the photos!

The Ross family

I went to high school with Melanie…which was…yeah, a long time ago. We didn’t run in the same circles really, but she has always been one of my favorite people that I remember from high school. She and her friend Lori were short, cute and the nicest people that you’d ever meet. They were almost like twins. They were always together.  And they had a unique way about them…like standing out in front of the school just waving at people as they drove up. Not just a normal wave, but like they were in a beauty pageant  or something.

I thought it was hilarious, which is likely why I still remember that to this day.

Now here we are…10…15…alright…18 years later and she’s got this massive, adorable family. They also have a unique story that I need to hear sometime. In the image below, the two kids on the right are hers, the other three belong to her husband Daniel. But technically, they all belong to each other now as Daniel just recently adopted her two kids as his own.

Such an amazing moment for them and I know from briefly asking about it that this was a huge deal.

So now they are this giant family of seven. We met up in downtown Gilbert for a mini-session last week and had a blast. Usually with these short little shoots, I try to grab group shots, individual shots and hopefully a couple of fun ones before we’re finished.

And what else is more fun than getting seven people to jump in the air at the same time? We did a lot of jumping at the end, and I kind of wished I was out there with ’em.

It was so awesome meeting you guys! Loved all the kids and hopefully we’ll meet up again down the road!
