Josh & Carol’s wedding at Desert Foothills

This one needed to be blogged. I love Desert Foothills and I love this couple. Josh is from Australia, Carol was born in Phoenix. There were lots of crazy accents and lots of tears.

Plus I got to work with Denise from What a Day Weddings, and Sula Studios. Check out their wedding trailer at the bottom of this post.

A perfect wedding day!

Field of Dreams

You know those kinds movies right? You are lazying around on a Saturday or Sunday, you flip the channels, you see THAT movie, the movie that you’ll now start watching, no matter how long it’s been on, and you get sucked in each and every time.

Field of Dreams is one of those for me. There are so many cool moments in the film that build off each other, it’s easy to get pulled right into the plot. Plus, unless you are a brick-wall-of-emotions, it kinds of gets you choked up right?

“Hey dad…you wanna have  a catch?”

Oh man, gets to me every time 🙂

So it’s another Movie Title Wednesday on the MO blog and this is a picture snapped back in Ontario, Canada last December. I think I processed this once, back then, and didn’t like it, so I forgot about it. But my skills with doing HDR have drastically improved since then and this second go-round was much more fun. It’s hard to dislike the gorgeous light coming from the just rising sun that is behind me. The field is made up of dead, harvested corn stalks, which is what made me think of this movie in the first place. The water in the field, if I remember correctly, was partially ice.

The sky was okay in the shot, but a smidge boring for this weather nut who likes high drama, so I mixed in a texture I shot in Bruges, Belgium a few months back. Good tip for you travelers: If you love textures, try to pull your eyes away from the wide angle shots of the city or town you are in, and look closer at the cobblestone, or doors or windows…and find yourself a “memento” that you can take back and use with other photographs. While it’s all done digitally, there was something very cool to me with combining a photograph of a barn in Ontario with a wood texture from Bruges.

Road to Perdition

I’ve decided that once a week (maybe on Wednesdays, who knows), I’m going to post an image that has a corresponding movie title. Why? Well, it came to me on a whim last night and that’s the way most things I do get started. First off, I love movies. Second, I think this will stretch my imagination a little bit. Heck, this may even lead to me taking a photograph specifically BECAUSE it reminds me of a movie. We’ll see.

Completely coincidentally, my buddy Brian posted an image today that was sort of inspired by the Lord of the Rings. I took it as an omen, or confirmation, when I woke up this morning that this was a good idea. I’m looking forward to this series.

Road to Perdition, a movie with Tom Hanks, really has nothing to do with this photo other than being the perfect title. Um, you got a road, and something fairly evil or damning looking lies ahead. I photographed this last year whilst in Toronto for work. I took a day trip exploring the areas west and north of Toronto and this was a little old, abandoned SOMETHING just off a road I was traveling down. Wasn’t sure if it was a barn or a house or what. I honestly didn’t want to get much closer to it, hence the reason I like this title so much. It was foreboding…scary, especially as this was in the quiet, wee hours of the morning with the sun having just risen. I’d be a horrible solo urban explorer…I get spooked too easily *grin*

I’ve been going back through old RAW brackets deleting stuff I wont ever use, but while doing that, I am finding photos I love that I never really processed. This is one of them. I knew right away it was going to be black and white, but I wont lie and say I wasn’t a little bit inspired by Bob Lussier’s photo posted  a few days ago. This is just a three-bracket HDR image, using Photomatix, CS5 and Nik software.

An old barn in northern Arizona

Another shot from my trip to Grand Falls last month…this was an old barn in the town of Williams, Arizona, which was where I actually was working earlier in the day before heading to the falls.

Lots of barbed wire around this thing or I may have tried to get closer to it, but I definitely loved the color of wood on the outside, the rusty looking roof and the trees around it. Not to mention there were a few clouds in the sky to add a little fun to the shot.
