Nine years ago last Thursday, Jay and Jessica were married. They now have two amazing little boys and a thriving, awesome photography business. They’ve become good friends of ours, did our family photos last year, our adoption photos when Eli joined us and will be doing our photoshoot again this fall.

Their one disappointment thus far in life has been lousy wedding photos. My wife and I are in the same boat. I wish we knew more about this stuff back then. So to remedy that in a way, Jay and Jess decided that for this anniversary they were going to celebrate by dressing up in wedding attire that represent who they are today, and get some photos taken.  They asked me to do the pictures and my brain started churning. We weren’t sure where we’d do the pictures, but Jessica and I spent many an email discussing ideas. At first it was going to be the Salton Sea. But we realized all the dead fish and toxic water may just not work out how we wanted. Bummer! Eventually I discovered a cool little area during my summer storm chasing. It was perfect for what they wanted.

Putting this entire thing together took the efforts of some seriously awesome friends of theirs. Alex Evjen (AVE Styles) helped picked out the dress. Kim Cornwell of Triple Threat Studio did the AWESOME  hair for these guys (she’s also not to be trifled with). Christine Valero did the makeup. And Jessica’s sister Danielle helped shred the dress!

Oh and I took photos 🙂

I can’t even begin to describe how much fun this was. Honestly, it was barely work at all. Jay and Jess are rock stars, they looked amazing and it was just a matter of walking around and taking pictures. I appreciated their willingness to trust me and drive over an hour to get to our location. We did get superbly blessed with a stunning sunset to end the day, so that was just a God thing you know?

Major congrats to you guys for nine years and for everything still to come! Thank you so much for letting me do this for you guys!

Here’s a shot of Kim below. Never try to buy a Snickers bar around her. You’ll end up with healthy trail mix.
