Chris and Debra: First Dance

Just a little sneak peak at Chris and Debra’s wedding from this past Saturday. At this moment they are enjoying a wonderfully relaxing trip to Jamaica and I have to say…that sounds awesome right about now. I’m sure they are loving it!

These two had a busy, busy day and I think their first dance was a moment they probably relaxed a little and started really enjoying themselves. The intense schedule for the day involved two different off-site shoots and a lot of walking at one of them. Exhausting I’m sure, especially for a bride who only slept four hours.

I loved this simple little dance floor. Cool little lights on the frame, giant hanging globes…was fun to shoot.

As for this photo, I have to give credit to other wedding photographers out there like Melissa Jill for passing on their tips and tricks for shooting the dance floor. A single speedlite on a lightstand in the back, one on-camera diffused. I decided to shoot this direction because of the light still barely visible in the west from the setting sun. I was using a borrowed 16-35mm 2.8 lens L lens and wow…that lens flare was wonderful.

More photos to come, but I had to drop this one on the blog today.

Really awesome shot. I like how it looks like they are dancing with nobody there, but if you look hard enough you can see people in the chairs. This looks almost like it were ripped right out of a romantic movie. Great shot man!

  • Jason A Clark

    Really nice. Great shot.

  • Jesse

SO good! That flare is just spectacular. Seems like youre really getting the hang of lighting. Great stuff.

Sooo good. I’m a sucker for lens flares – that’s an awesome shot! I use the 16-35mm too, what a great lens.

Mike, again, this is awesome! I really want to start learning about off camera lighting!!! Can’t wait to see more from this wedding!
