(for those with smaller resolutions, click on the image to see it without having to scroll) I’ve always loved Legos, ever since I was a little kid. My brother and I have pictures of us every Christmas surrounded by new Lego sets, just anxious to build them and then tear them apart to make what we really wanted. Because when you are younger and play with Legos, it’s all about your imagination. I wont even get into everything that we made as kids. These days…as I approach 40…Legos are still fun, but I treat them differently. I buy the Technic…
(Click to view in lightbox, the choice of a new generation) If you haven’t seen the movie Se7en, then you probably wont get how it connects with the image above. You probably wont get the horrific moment it represents in the film either. And I don’t want to give anything away for people who still want to watch it, so I’ll do my best to just skip those details. Needless to say, when I was processing this photo…it was suddenly obvious that it was going to be used for Movie Title Wednesday. I think I even may have had an…
(image looks sharper and clearing by clicking on it to view in lightbox) I rarely do “series” on my blog, because if I do they just get strung out for weeks at a time since I like to change things up on a daily basis. At that point it’s hard to keep track of them. But yesterday I started an “Over the Fence” series and today this is kind of the beginning of what will start out as a small “Phoenix Reflections” series. Last week after we had a rare moment of rain, I decided to head downtown around dusk…
(Image looks a bit sharper and cooler if you click to view in lightbox) This is the first image of what will be an ongoing series that I’m dubbing “Over the Fence.” There is a bit of a backstory on this, so hopefully you don’t mind reading a few extra words today. We moved into this 100-year old, downtown Phoenix house back in November and met a few of our neighbors right off the bat. Great people. One of them was a guy named John who has lived on our block for over 20 years and owns five houses just…
I had to share this little outtake from the wedding shoot last weekend. The entire time we were at the zoo, people were waving, smiling and shouting out congratulations to Debra and Chris. It was a lot of fun to watch people get a grin on their face at seeing a wedding couple kind of out of place in this park for animals. So we rode this gondola through the zoo in order to try and get a unique picture of the two newlyweds. While on the ride, there were the usual people waving and congratulating them as they moved…
Debra and Chris have known each other for a very, very long time. If I’m not mistaken, they grew up in the same church as kids and formed a long-time friendship. Fast-forward to their wedding last Saturday and that friendship has definitely taken a new step forward. They are two great people and I’m so blessed to have been able to shoot pictures of their big day. We met for the first time a few months ago when we wandered the Wildlife World Zoo looking for shooting locations, but I’ve been conversing with Debra since last August when she asked…
(click on the image for a lightbox version with a sexy dark frame) I’d toss this into more of an abstract category that I like to do from time to time. Some of you know I was inspired a bit by the black and white work of Mitch Dobrowner and so from time to time I like to process my landscapes/stormscapes with a very stylized B&W treatment. After my drive through El Dorado canyon last week outside of Las Vegas, I parked and walked down a wash to the Colorado River. The desert around this area was pretty stark. I…
(click on the image above to see it fit to your desktop resolution…and view it in a nicely framed lightbox) I’m a huge science fiction movie fan. Not really so much the silly stuff that’s out there, but more of the solid, make-you-think kind of films, like Primer, Children of Men or Moon. When I completed this image and decided to use it for Movie Title Wednesday, I actually was thinking Inception at first, but without realizing it, I had been saying the true title to myself over and over while staring at it. Dark City. First off, I need…
(click on the image for a larger, nicer view in lightbox) Just a little sneak peak at Chris and Debra’s wedding from this past Saturday. At this moment they are enjoying a wonderfully relaxing trip to Jamaica and I have to say…that sounds awesome right about now. I’m sure they are loving it! These two had a busy, busy day and I think their first dance was a moment they probably relaxed a little and started really enjoying themselves. The intense schedule for the day involved two different off-site shoots and a lot of walking at one of them. Exhausting…
This Saturday night (March 26th) is the Urban Phoenix Photowalk: Night Edition. You can read more about it by clicking here and if you want to join us, just register via the form at the bottom. We have a bunch of people showing up, including a guy driving in from Yuma just to join us! It’s going to be a fun night…I think we’ll have a chance at a nice sunset down by the railroad tracks and then we’ll wander around downtown until we all feel like we need to rest our weary feet with a few brews at Coach…
