Storms over the Strawberry Fields

Go figure. I get slightly jealous about Phoenix having an amazing chance of storms last weekend and ME having to go to Holland. Okay, I wasn’t TOO upset, but part of me wished I was there enjoying the first big storms of the year. But it turns out it wasn’t a bad thing to be over here. They definitely didn’t materialize in Phoenix, but I sure got a dose of them here in Nuenen, Netherlands. First night I was here I was woken up by a thunderstorm, and then today we had two big storms roll through and drop a [...]

An old feed mill in Ogalalla, Nebraska

I have a feeling that if you dumped me in Nebraska for a week, I’d still come home wishing I had snapped just a few more photos. If you follow my work, you know I stormchased in Nebraska a few weeks ago. I drove from Denver to Ogalalla, Nebraska late at night to set up for the storms the following day. Never heard of this town, never been there before obviously, and it was just the next stop on the road with hotels and me dying for sleep at 2am. The next day I had a lot of time to [...]

The Light Rail Bridge over Tempe Town Lake

I guess I’m not done with stuff I shot in Tempe a few weekends ago. I had some issues with this photo but I worked them out and finally got around to posting it. This bridge is for the public transit system we call “the light rail” here in Phoenix. It’s kind of slow, it has to stop for traffic lights, cost a lot of money and time, but it’s actually pretty cool that we finally have something like this here in town. This particular bridge goes over Tempe Town Lake and the underneath of it changes colors randomly.  I [...]

The Fountain at Mission Palms in Tempe

My tour around downtown Tempe took me through the Mission Palms Hotel and right by this fountain. It’s located in the middle of a round-a-about that serves as the hotel’s main entrance. I plopped down on a curb and grabbed a bunch of brackets ranging from 1-30 seconds. What struck me most about the shot was just the way the palm trees were lit up from spotlights and the way they served as a pretty sweet background to the fountain. My only wish was that the water spilling over the edges had a stronger flow, because the blur is a [...]

Babies, birthday suits and jeans

If there was a love inside of me for storm/landscape photography, there is an equal love for taking pictures of people. Random shots, candid portraits…that’s what I love. And above all that, I love taking pictures of my little girl Lyla Grace. For those new people who may have just started following some of my work, Lyla took a long time to make happen. Infertility problems and an expensive in vitro procedure amounted to about six years of trying until she was finally born into this world. She’s an angel and a light in our lives. Some of my best [...]
