Brick

Yes, there is a movie called Brick. Thanks for visiting for another Movie Title Wednesday and an image that I’m extremely excited about and what it might mean for me down the road. First off, the movie itself is a strange one.  It stars Joseph Gordon-Levitt and the dialog is almost written like a Shakespearean play. If you love Independent films, you might want to track this one down and give it a looksee. This photo was shot in downtown Phoenix back in October and represents a new world that I plan on exploring slowly over the coming months. I [...]

A First Friday retrospective

(Above image of my gallery display taken by Ken Peterson. Check out his work on Flickr) I had an idea that Friday night would be awesome, but I didn’t realize just how much of a success it would end up being. For those that follow me, I was part of a galley exhibit in downtown Phoenix for First Fridays. The gallery was organized by Day Twelve and displayed at their collaborative space on McKinely and 2nd Avenue. If you’ve never heard of a church doing something like this, join the club. They invited six of us to show our work, [...]

First Friday is tonight!

(Canon Rebel XSi, 17-35mm, 17mm, ISO100, F10, six exposure HDR, Photomatix, CS5, Topaz Adjust) The First Friday art walk in downtown Phoenix happens tonight and for the first time I’ll be showing my work in a collaborative gallery for a month. I’m beyond excited and cannot wait for 6pm! My wonderful mom and step-dad are babysitting for us so that my wife and I can get out of the house and just enjoy a lovely evening meeting people, talking to people and enjoying our time spent together. If you are interested in coming, click right here for the flyer. Myself [...]

Sunrise over Boob Mountain

I was on my way to Williams, Arizona with my work buddy Jesse, followed up by another guy named Steve in his truck. We had to do a little client support up there so to get to the site by 7:30am, you need to leave Phoenix around 4. These two guys both smoke and so we ended up pulling over on Table Mesa Road for a little morning cigarette break and also to satisfy my need for a sunrise photo. Because man, if I have to get up at 4 o-clock in the morning for work, at least let me [...]

The NeverEnding Story

I have to say…coming up with movie titles has been getting tougher and tougher. Because this series has kind of become popular among those who read this blog, I’ve ended up holding onto some of my more favorite recent images until Wednesdays when I can unveil them along with a great movie title. But with that comes the problem of having an image and being unable to relate it to a film without wracking your brain for hours. This particular image is one I had stashed in the archives long before the movie series ever started. Back from July. But [...]

An appearance in Shutterbug magazine

I teased people yesterday on Twitter/Facebook about something awesome that happened earlier in the day and after a lot of feedback/questions/silly comments on Facebook, I suddenly feared that this little nugget had a life of its own and there was no way what I am posting right now could possibly live up to expectations. If you are a movie fan, think Last Action Hero. I don’t know if there has ever been as much hype for as bad of a movie as that was. Alright, I know it’s not Movie Title Wednesday, so I’ll just share the news and let [...]

Fall is just around the bend

Okay, technically fall is in full swing across the country, but here in Phoenix, it’s still around 90 degrees and for this guy who really dislikes the summers out here…it’s just not “fall weather” yet. Although the nights are amazing right now. But on my trip up north to Williams back on the 13th of October, I did run across the beginnings of fall in a few places. One of the areas I visited on my way back to Phoenix was Oak Creek Canyon which is accessible via State Route 89a from Flagstaff. I hadn’t driven down that road in [...]

Vegas Baby…Vegas

As many of you may know about me, I love to shoot the weather with the best composition I can come up with in whatever situation arises…however, sometimes all you can do is run up to the top of a parking garage and snap photos of a monster storm and not care about anything else. I was in Vegas two weeks ago during some good stormy weather, driving back to the airport with a colleague from another company, and I can’t even tell you how badly I wanted to pull the car over. I didn’t have a tripod or lightning [...]

Glowing Rails

(Canon Rebel XSI, Tamron 17-35mm 2.8, 17mm, ISO 100, 8-exposures, F8) Back three weeks ago when I realized it was going to be a nice sunset, I’d drive 5 minutes and be in the middle of the desert. Now I’m scrambling for places in downtown Phoenix that will compliment the gorgeous skies we get down here in the evenings and mornings. My little family and I had been driving around downtown two weekends ago just exploring and seeing what kind of restaurants are there, shops, etc. Of course I was unconsciously more focused on things I could photograph, but when [...]

Speed

Downtown Phoenix Freeway Interstate 10

Oh how I longed to live closer to the downtown area so I could explore taking shots like this one. Long exposures over freeways with loads of vehicles. Although, I realized when I look at this that it could basically have been taken on any ol’ freeway with a pedestrian overpass! But I love it because it’s downtown Phoenix! I also love the movie Speed, which is the name of the film for my weekly Movie Title Wednesday entry. I don’t care how much people hate Keanu Reeves and his acting (or lack of) style…I usually find him entertaining. If [...]
