Dee and Iulia

My colleague, fellow photographer and good friend Dee Nichols got engaged earlier this year and had a photo I wish I could show you to commemorate the event. Iulia is beautiful, funny and such a perfect match for Dee, I couldn’t be anymore happier for both of them. I took photos of these two back in November and around that time they asked me to also shoot their wedding scheduled for 1/1/11.

The wedding was set to be outdoors, but the sudden onslaught of sub 45 degree weather forced the event to be moved to a church at the last minute, so the setting ended up being a gymnasium inside the building.

I was joined by my buddy and fellow photographer Rick Young, who acted as second-shooter and off-camera-flash guru. I definitely couldn’t have done this without him, so much thanks Rick. The wedding brought together families from the United States and the Republic of Moldova, between Romania and the Ukraine.The country itself is new, having declared themselves independent upon the dissolving of the Soviet Union. Iulia is from Moldova, but has an “adopted” American family here. But a large consortium of family from Moldova flew all this way just for the wedding and it was amazing to see the two groups of people come together.

Not to mention…I love their accents and even hearing them speak in Moldovan! Absolutely beautiful.

Huge families, tons of kids…we did group shots for each side of the family and they amounted to over 30 people in each of them. Again…thank you Rick.

Probably my favorite part of the entire event was the couple themselves and the choice of a white suit and black wedding dress. They looked stunning, but the dress was magnificent. It was actually a white dress stained black just for this occasion. Loved it.

Thank you Dee and Iulia for letting us be a part of your big day…it was a blast and we wish you both long lives of happiness.
