Christmas Cards 2009

Well this year has certainly been a big one for me. Photography for me went from an occasional weather photo and tons of pictures of Lyla, to an explosion of excitement and new experiences. I realized how much I loved it, got a better camera and have been learning and exploring this art form non-stop. One of the most humbling aspects of this new venture came at Christmas. There were four separate Christmas cards (including our own) that were made with a photo I took. I couldn’t ever have imagined that would happen in my wildest dreams. I mean, who [...]

Sunset in Tempe

I went on a little adventure Tuesday night and it paid off in some big ways. The first of which was making it to Tempe Town Lake just  in time for a seriously spectacular sunset. I found a spot just on the north side off Rural and ran to the water’s edge and found the setting sun igniting the clouds and the lake. Here are the four sunset photos I snapped, three of them are normal, the last is an HDR. Sun Devil Stadium on the left of the photo This last one is an HDR

Storm photos from Tuesday

We had some fun storms blow through town yesterday, I took a few photos from my office building and then after picking Lyla up from the sitter, I jumped down south of Hunt Highway to check out some crazy looking clouds. This is an HDR shot taken from a parking garage near my office. HDR shot taken from my 19th floor office window! Another HDR shot down south from my house. A regular photo, no HDR here. Another normal photo, processed with a bit of a dirty color to give it an old look. I love this style.

Working at Paradise Bakery

My car is being fixed, it had a bad engine coil and some warped drums on the front brakes, so I’ve been sitting and working at Paradise Bakery on Germann and Gilbert. I do love this place…the people have been friendly, even offering to get me a refill of my diet Coke. Had a fantastic omelette for breakfast and if I’m here any longer, looks like a decent salad for lunch. It’s actually been quite fun and an easy place to focus on work. I’ve gotten a ton of stuff done this morning. If you’re curious, the cup in the [...]

Photographing the Klein girls

Our friends Matt and Daireth wanted a nice shot for their Christmas card and asked me to give it a try. As with shooting the Wilds, I was fairly nervous about it, but honestly, when you get a look at how photogenic these girls are, I really had nothing to worry about. These were done before Thanksgiving, just now getting around to showing off a few. I’m not posting the image that made it onto their card because I plan on doing a post later on that showcases all four Christmas cards that used a photo I shot this year. [...]

Photographing Jefferson, Texas

IMG_4715

Here is another blog post of photos taken when we visited Jina’s parents in Jefferson, Texas over Thanksgiving. The previous one was all HDR photos, but these are your normal, everyday shots. Hope you enjoy this little taste of the Jefferson area. And old car sits under a tree. Did an HDR of this same care in my previous post. A burned down building, likely from arson which had been rampant there for awhile. The sky at dusk. An old house we saw from a horse and buggy ride. An old magnolia tree I believe? Just liked this old truck [...]

Photographing Jefferson, Texas in HDR

2009-11-21 The Hale House

Over Thanksgiving we visited Jefferson, Texas to stay with Jina’s parents at The Hale House Inn, the bed and breakfast that they run in this small town. For such a small town, it’s amazing that there are THIRTY bed and breakfasts! In spite of all the family time, decorating the house, eating tons of food, I was able to get away on a few occasions to snap some photos. All of these are HDR (high dynamic range) and I’ll be posting a follow-up that only includes regular photos. Hope you enjoy them!

Photographing the Wild family

Madden_009

I am definitely not at the point where doing photoshoots of people is all that comfortable for me. I have a lot to learn, my “eye” for a good photo is still raw and unlearned, so I am always hoping I can do the best I possibly can and get them a few photos that will be worth having for the rest of their lives. But I do love the opportunity to try and while it’s scary, I always find it rewarding. And when I say “always”, I mean I’ve done this twice now *grin* Kathy Wild and her two [...]

Visiting Ontario, Canada

2009-12-06-Farms-IMG_5499

My job has sent me to Ontatio, Canada for two weeks, more specifically the Toronto-Burlington area. Since we were here over the weekend, I was able to visit Niagara Falls and then take a long drive on Sunday exploring Toronto and some farm land areas. Below are some of my favorite photos from the trip so far, hope you enjoy them!
